Favourites for over 100 years

Kids all over the north of England grew up drinking Lowcocks Lemonade. The Lowcocks name began way back in 1880 when Joseph and Margaret Lowcock began producing home made lemonade in Stranton, near Hartlepool, at the time an area famous for it's supply of high quality natural spring water.

Expansion followed the birth of new premises in Hartlepool where local shop keepers were supplied by horse drawn wagons with their weekly supply of the now popular bottles of Lowcocks Lemonade.

In 1909, the eldest son, Walter, spearheaded a move to new premises in Middlesbrough. Sadly, he died at the age of just 33 and his son Martin William continued running the company with his mother until his death in 1973.

At this time, his son John Martin Lowcock took over the helm and ran the company throughout the seventies.

Interesting facts.

In world war two, the soft drinks industry was nationalised as part of the war effort! A high percentage of production was earmarked for export to our troops serving abroad. At home, distribution was limited to "controlled zones" in an effort to save petrol. At the end of the war, soft drinks companies were returned to private ownership.

Our Famous Glass Bottles.

The most famous Lowcocks glass bottle is probably the one shown here, with 'Middlesbrough' embossed on the side.

We still sell Lowcocks in glass bottles today, though we may soon start offering smaller, snack sized containers for lunchboxes. However, by using returnable glass bottles, we're helping to avoid expensive landfill and the production of more plastics. And yes, we still give money back on the empties!

We're told that the original bottle had a glass stopper, but we've been unable to find one. If you have any old Lowcocks items, we'd love to hear from you. Who knows, one day there might be a Lowcocks Museum!
